On January 20, 2025, Berlin’s Tennis Bar played host to a riotous performance by Getdown Services, a duo whose music, humor, and charm had the sold-out crowd of 80 dancing, laughing, and desperate for more (spoiler: they'll be back in June). With their infectious blend of beats and riffs and an irreverent sense of fun, it’s no wonder they came highly recommended by none other than Fat Dog, who tipped us off to this band during our recent interview with them.
Getdown Services is the brainchild of Josh Law and Ben Sadler, childhood friends who first met in school in Minehead, Somerset. Now based in Bristol, the duo has mastered the art of making music that blends danceable electronic beats with gritty, guitar-driven rock, all wrapped in a thick layer of humor. Their DIY ethos and genuine chemistry shine through both in their music and their live performances.
From the first beat, Getdown Services had the audience hooked. Their set was a rollercoaster of dancefloor-ready electronic grooves and raw, guitar-driven rock anthems, punctuated by hilarious banter and witty observations. Josh and Ben’s chemistry was palpable, both musically and as comedic partners, making every moment feel spontaneous and alive.
By the midway point of the show, the cozy Tennis Bar had transformed into a sauna of joyful chaos. The crowd, drenched in sweat, danced without inhibition as the duo delivered track after track of irresistible grooves. The thick heat and packed space only seemed to fuel the energy of the night.
A personal standout moment of the night came with “Get Back Jamie”, their hilariously song about hating celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. With biting lyrics poking fun at his TV ubiquity, the track had the audience in stitches while belting out the chorus. It was the perfect marriage of wit, absurdity, and undeniable musical chops—encapsulating everything that makes Getdown Services so unique.
