GALLERY & REVIEW | IDKHow & Alexsucks by Grace Forrester

With just a few shows into their tour, IDKHow and opening act Alexsucks rocked the iconic House of Blues Dallas last Friday night, providing the packed crowd with a night full of surprises. From a melody of their hits and covers, to deepcuts for the long-time fans, there was a little something for everyone to enjoy.

Watching Alexsucks turn the music hall to feel like a rowdy, unfiltered house-show jam was a joy to see. They were the perfect warm-up, making the crowd jump with songs like ‘The Gutter’ and ‘6 Pack And Cigarettes’ Even guitarist John Luther pointed out those in the balcony seats, jokingly picking on them for not joining in on the fun and chaos. By the time they closed with ‘What’re We Doing Here’ and left the stage with a loud last applause, it was clear to see just  how much they won over the crowd.

As soon as the first notes of ‘Leave Me Alone’ rang over the speakers as the band started taking the stage, the crowd exploded into a cheer. Last to join them was frontman Dallon Weekes, gesturing across the whole stage towards the crowd. The setlist for the night included many favorites across the band discography, including live debuts new and old, including ‘Absinthe’ from their 2018 release “1981 Extended Play’ and a few from their newest album “GLOOM DIVISION”.

After asking the crowd if they could bring them all back in time Weekes and the band played a couple songs from his previous group, The Brobecks, in a melody of ‘Cluster Hug’ and ‘Visitation of the Ghost’. Including some very topical snippets of Chappel Roan’s ‘HOT TO GO’ and Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’, causing the already hyped-up crowd to go even harder.

One of the many highlights of the night was a special fan project created for their song Kiss Goodnight, almost everyone in the crowd holding out printed-out hearts in front of their phone flashlights. Looking out over the crowd was quite the touching moment as the show was coming close to an end.

As the band came back for their encore, Weekes invited Alexsucks vocalist Alex Alvarez for ‘Nobody Likes the Opening Band’ and closed the night out with their biggest hit to date ‘Choke’, playing out the song’s iconic saxophone solo as they left the stage.
